Granny and Grumpy used to come to this area to camp in the mountains. Unfortunately, we arrived on the weekend when both the state park and the McDonald Observatory were celebrating anniversaries so we were unable to get a campsite. However, they had an overflow area in which we could dry camp (behind a locked gate). Thank goodness for generators and air conditioners. Even though it is “in the mountains” it is still Texas and HOT! If you have never visited this area some of the photos below will give you an idea of the terrain. Granny seemed to think it was an adventure until the winds came up during the night and we thought they would blow us away. As a result, we only stayed one night.
