Balmorhea, TX

Balmorhea is famous for the springs.

The pool has a round central area which the springs are in the middle of (as well as all around the area) and two arms. It is up to 25 feet deep, covers 1.3 acres and holds 3.5 million gallons of water. More than 15 million gallons of water flow through the pool each day. At the end of one arm is a very deep area which is popular for scuba diving. We talked to a guy from Lubbock (250 miles away) who had a group of students there that day. You can see some divers under the water in the foreground of this picture and on the surface in the background. In theĀ  middle are some ducks who also seem to like this cool water (72 to 76 degrees year round). Most divers were in wet suits but other swimmers were not. The air temperature was in the high 80s.

The two arms.

You can see why the scuba divers love it. Even at 20 feet deep you can see the bottom so clearly.

The springs feed this lake about 4-5 miles away.
