Twin Brothers

Aunt Betty gave us a lovely tour of Nacogdoches.  There were apparently twin brothers, Natchitoches and Nacogdoches, who didn’t get along so their father sent them away in different directions.  Hence the two towns (now sister cities).  There are several lovely sculptures – I particularly loved the country doctor, of course. While his clothes and hat are a little different than my dad wore, the bag in hand and the stethoscope in his pocket is perfect.  The bird sculpture is made with tire rubber and the pumpjack is very appropriate for this oil rich area.  Nacogdoches has been under 8 flags (rather than the six for Texas) due to a couple of rebellions that lasted long enough to have flags.  Lovely East Texas city, home of Stephen F. Austin University which two of my sisters attended.
