We took a walk around town and found this wonderful mural on the wall of the bank. It tells the story of the opening of the highway into Death Valley. Water was taken from the highest lake and, in assorted ways, transported to the lowest point in the US. Wow! It’s a wonderful story of how an unconventional priest (Father Crowley) organized what was basically a publicity stunt to help this area attract tourists. If you want more detail, click here.
This is looking south through town and the one and only stop light several blocks down in the distance.
We also found this wonderful map which has all sorts of landmarks in the area.
