Cong (May 30)

From Kiltimagh, we did a day trip to Cong, which is famous primarily for three things: a medieval ruined abbey (history here), a museum about a John Ford film, and Ashford Castle. The castle is now a hotel and not open to tourists (who can pay to see the grounds), but is the home to the Ireland School of Falconry. Having seen falcons at Tintern Abbey, we skipped the castle.

We also passed on the John Ford Museum. The Quiet Man was filmed here in Cong.

Some of the tractors have huge tires – we assume because of the frequently wet, marshy ground.

Meeting these kinds of trucks and/or buses is pretty scary – especially since they don’t really slow down.

Bob says he is beginning to feel jaded about ruins. The grounds here are beautiful.
